Charlestown If you have never before been to Charlestown, you have missed a real treat! It has largely escaped development and remains one of the finest and most fascinating places on the Cornish coast. Built in 1790, the village is home to an original Georgian working harbour; a small amount of china clay is still exported in an average of 30-40 ships a year. As a result, Charlestown retains both charm and identity. The harbour is the home port for a famous collection of tall ships which are employed in film projects all over the world, as well as Charlestown itself being a popular location for films and television programmes. These have included ‘Persuasion’, ‘The Eagle has Landed’ and the 1990s version of ‘The Three Musketeers’. The ships and the town have brought work and life to the quays and harbour buildings and are a particular draw for visitors. Relaxing with a drink outside the Pier House Hotel and watching the ships in the harbour as the sun sets, is a perfect way to end your day. We are sure that you will have a wonderful holiday at our cottage.
